Understanding and Using Ignition Cycles in your Investigations
Speaker: Kent Boots from Kent E. Boots & Associates
When the ignition cycles at investigation are the same as at the time of the event no one really cares too much what the number is. It is when there is a difference, or possibly even a significant difference that the investigator needs to address the discrepancy. This presentation will discuss the various ignition cycle definitions as well as what constitutes an ignition cycle. In other words, what does it take to increment the ignition cycle counter? Is there a difference between a conventional ignition switch and a pushbutton start vehicle? When, if at all, does a remote start vehicle increment the ignition cycle counter? What about direct-to-module imaging and repowering? It will also discuss when non-deployment events can be overwritten solely based upon ignition cycles; remember hearing about 250 ignition cycles? Finally, the presentation will present ongoing research on average daily ignition cycles.
